Training

IGIS offers training programs to practicing geologist and geophysicists in recent advancements in geophysical instruments, survey techniques and data processing.

Objective:  A major portion of our water requirement for agriculture, industry and drinking is met from groundwater resources. It is, therefore, imperative that demarcation of groundwater potential areas and identification of suitable sites for tapping this resource by systematic and appropriate exploration techniques are the essential pre-requisites, so that huge expenditure on unsuccessful drilling can be avoided. The objective of this program is to impart training in systematic scientific approaches especially through electrical resistivity and geophysical well-logging techniques. Special emphasis will be given to enhance the efficacy of electrical methods through improvements in instrumentation, data collection, data analysis and interpretation.

About the training program: The course is mainly designed for the geologists, geophysicists, hydrogeologists and engineers. The emphasis will be on practical aspects and case studies rather than on theory so that the participants may acquire a good working knowledge in data acquisition, processing and interpretation.

The training will be imparted through

·                   classroom lectures to introduce the basic principles of  resistivity exploration

techniques, their applications, data acquisition and interpretation.

 *         hands-on training with various models of resistivity meters.

 *         interactive tutorials for processing and interpretation of the  field data by

conventional as well as computer techniques.

 *         practical field training in typical hydrogeological terrains where the participants will carry out groundwater exploration by integrated geological and geophysical methods.

Target Group:

The program is mainly targeted for the geologists, hydrogeologists, civil engineers and also private practitioners engaged in groundwater exploration programs. However, a few fresh postgraduates in earth sciences may be considered.

Duration of the course:  4 - 6 days

Those desirous of undergoing the above training may fill-in the enclosed down-loadable application format and submit the same through mail or by post for further action by IGIS.
